I have listed some common medications below and described their purpose (i.e. what they treat). 

Statins

  • Simvastatin

  • Apixaban
  • Rivaroxoban
Osteoporosis medications
  • Bisphosphonates (slow the rate of bone brakedown) e.g. Alendronic acid
  • Calcium supplements e.g. calci chew
  • Vitamin D supplements
  • Selective Oestrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs) - maintain bone density e.g. Raloxifene
  • HRT (for menopausal women)

  • ACE inhibitors --> lisinopril and ramipril
  • Calcium channel blockers e.g. amlodipine
  • Beta-blockers --> atenolol and bisoprolol

Diabetes (Type 2)
  • Metformin
  • Sulphonylureas e.g. Daonil
  • Alpha glucosidase inhibitor (Acarbose) e.g. Glucobay
  • Prandial glucose regulators e.g. Prandin and Starlix
  • Thiazolidinediones (glitazones) e.g. Actos and Competact
  • GLP-1's (incretin mimetics) e.g. Byetta
  • DPP-4 inhibitors (gliptins) e.g. Januvia
  • SGLT2 inhibitors e.g. Forxiga
